Mankato – The Historic R.D. Hubbard House, which is one of the finest Victorian-style homes still left in Mankato, is holding its last after hours program for the season on Wednesday, August 19 beginning at 6 p.m. titled “Bloom and Gloom: The Wild Side of Plants.” Admission is $15/adults, $12/seniors, $10/BECHS Members, and $5/children 5-17. Space is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance at BlueEarthCountyHistory.com/events

From healing herbs to deadly poisons, plants have shaped daily life in fascinating—and sometimes dangerous—ways. Explore the strange side of botany through stories of medicinal remedies, poisonous plots, beauty powders, household cures, and curious customs from the past. With a mix of humor, history, and a touch of mischief, this program reveals how the natural world could be both helpful and hazardous.

Please note, only the main floor of the Hubbard House is handicap accessible. This tour includes stairs, often steep stairs, and small spaces. Please wear comfortable shoes.

There will be 5 tours this evening, leaving every 15 minutes. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
