Residencies and Concerts Aim to Foster Culture Exchange in Small Communities
Fairmont — Arts Midwest is bringing the Taiwanese song and dance of A Moving Sound to Fairmont as part of Arts Midwest World Fest. During a weeklong residency in Fairmont and surrounding cities, A Moving Sound will offer workshops in local schools and other community locations and perform live in concert at Knights of Columbus on October 25th at 7 p.m.
Fusing traditional influences with a global sensibility, the award-winning ensemble A Moving Sound (Sheng Don聲動) from Taiwan built a worldwide following through their joyous mix of original music and dance. Featuring the distinctive timbres of the erhu (Taiwanese fiddle) and zhong ruan (lute) and the transcendent vocals of Mia Hsieh, A Moving Sound has devised a unique and compelling style that is all their own – a Taiwanese whirlwind that veers between the meditative and the exuberant with irrepressible spirit.
A Moving Sound’s visit to the Fairmont area is made possible by a partnership between Arts Midwest, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Minnesota State Arts Board, The Schmeeckle Foundation, Visit Fairmont, and Fairmont Opera House. The partnership most recently brought LADAMA to do a week-long residency in the Fairmont area, and in the spring of 2025, it will bring Farah Siraj.
According to Executive Director Blake Potthoff, “While we are still not in our theater due to our ongoing capital project, we found it crucial to continue to bring this program to our community. We have worked with them for a long time and wanted to see them through their final year of programming. The artists that Arts Midwest provides are so unique that we couldn’t let this opportunity pass us by.”

World Fest is an exciting opportunity to celebrate the work and connection between our community partners and of these talented musicians.”
“This fall will be the second tour for A Moving Sound as part of World Fest,” says A Moving Sound. “We hope that communities get a sense of the vibrant energy of Taiwan! We also hope people will feel this creative energy in our cultural presentations and our music.”

A Moving Sound Ticket Information
A Moving Sound will perform for students at area schools and residents at local nursing homes throughout the week before their final performance at Knights of Columbus 920 E 10th St, Fairmont, MN 56031 on October 25th at 7pm.
