What does American music sound like?
ProMusica Minnesota invites audiences to explore that question in American Mosaic, an afternoon of chamber music honoring the nation’s 250th anniversary through works that are bold, lyrical, playful, and unmistakably American.
The concert features an outstanding roster of performers: Bethel Balge, piano; Maureen Nelson, violin; Silver Ainomäe, cello; and Kathryn Wurster, soprano; along with student performers Eliana Geiger, Ella Bergemann, John Balge, and Will Archer opening the concert with a rousing eight-hand two-piano rendition of John Philip Sousa’s crowd favorite Stars and Stripes Forever.
“As our country celebrates its 250th anniversary, American Mosaic offers a chance to reflect on the many musical voices that shape our national identity,” said pianist Bethel Balge, Artistic Director of ProMusica Minnesota. “This program brings together composers whose music is bold, lyrical, and unmistakably American, and we’re thrilled to share it with our community.”
The program highlights a rich variety of American voices and styles, from the expressive lyricism of Amy Beach to the cinematic elegance of André Previn. Featured works include:
