New Ulm – New Ulm is thrilled to introduce an exciting new holiday tradition: the Weihnachts Markt – New Ulm Holiday Market, debuting on Friday, November 28, in German Park. Inspired by the charm of European Christmas markets, this brand-new event invites the community to experience festive vendors, seasonal treats, warm beverages, music, and holiday cheer in a beautifully decorated outdoor setting.

One of the highlights of this first-ever market will be the chance to meet live reindeer and enjoy a special holiday photo opportunity—perfect for families, children, and anyone seeking a magical seasonal moment. (For the safety of the reindeer and all guests, we kindly request that visitors leave pets at home, as no outside animals will be permitted at the event.) Vendors will have hand-crafted items and gifts for sale, enjoy a s’more while warming yourself at a fire pit, listen to live music from local groups, join in some caroling, visit a food truck, and wander through the park to see a variety of beautifully decorated trees on display from local businesses, organizations, and families.

As daylight fades, the Weihnachts Markt will culminate in the Ceremonial Lighting of New Ulm’s 40-Foot Upside-Down Christmas Tree at 5:00 p.m., also located in German Park. This memorable community gathering—paired with the debut of the market—creates a warm and festive kickoff to the holiday weekend. Following the tree lighting, guests are encouraged to make their way to downtown for the 37th Annual Parade of Lights beginning at 6:00 p.m., and the celebration continues the next day with Small Business Saturday on November 29, featuring local shopping specials and incentives around town.

While exploring the market and downtown businesses, visitors are invited to enjoy the creativity on display through the Festive Facades storefront decorating competition—be sure to stroll through, admire the decorations, and vote for your favorites. Shoppers can also pick up a #LoyalToLocalNU Holiday Passport at participating businesses; collecting stamps for purchases enters shoppers into a drawing to win Chamber Dollars up to $1,000.
