Recognition comes just in time for Crazy Days shopping celebration

New Ulm – As New Ulm prepares for one of its biggest shopping weekends of the year, the community has another reason to celebrate.

The Minnesota Retailers Association has named New Ulm a 2026–2027 Minnesota Retail Champion, recognizing communities that demonstrate exceptional support for local retail and create an outstanding shopping experience for residents and visitors alike. The statewide awards celebrate innovation, collaboration, and the vital role retail plays in strengthening Minnesota communities.

The recognition reflects the efforts of hundreds of local business owners, employees, community organizations, volunteers, and shoppers who continue to invest in New Ulm’s business community year-round.

“There is something special about shopping local in New Ulm,” said Sarah Warmka, President and CEO of the New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce. “Our retailers work incredibly hard to create welcoming experiences, unique shopping opportunities, and a sense of community that you simply can’t find everywhere. This recognition belongs to all of them—and to the customers who choose to support them.”

The award comes just ahead of Crazy Days, taking place July 24–26, when retailers throughout New Ulm will offer sidewalk sales, special promotions, discounts, giveaways, and unique shopping experiences. Businesses across the entire community—not just downtown—will participate throughout the weekend, making it one of the year’s best opportunities to shop local.

In addition to shopping specials, the weekend includes Downtown Polka Palooza entertainment, family activities, food, and other attractions that create a festive atmosphere while encouraging residents and visitors to explore New Ulm’s diverse retail community.

The Minnesota Retail Champions designation is a testament to the collaboration and community spirit that define New Ulm. From independently owned boutiques and specialty shops to long-standing retailers and service businesses, the community’s commitment to supporting local commerce continues to make New Ulm a vibrant place to live, work, visit, and shop.

The New Ulm Area Chamber of Commerce represents nearly 400 members and is proud to celebrate this recognition alongside the businesses, employees, volunteers, and customers who helped make it possible. The Chamber congratulates New Ulm’s retail community on being named a 2025–2026 Minnesota Retail Champion and looks forward to continuing to support a thriving local business environment.
