Mankato — A 10-piece ensemble of area musicians, Joe’s Garage, will perform works of American composer Frank Zappa on Saturday, April 5, 7:00 p.m. at Morson-Ario-Strand VFW Post 950 in Mankato.
A composer who spanned genres ranging from orchestral works performed by the London Symphony Orchestra to doo-wop and eclectic rock performed by his group The Mothers of Invention, Zappa wrote and performed music from the 1960s until his death in 1993 at the age of 52. In his lifetime he produced more than 60 albums, with just as many released following his death.
Musicians in the April 5 event are Abigail Kimble, Kat Baumann, Evan Bierer, Sarah Houle, Jessica Landsteiner, Ryan Rader, Scott Rahe, Justin Cody Tollefson, Joe Tougas, David Viscoli, and Eric Zimmerman. The show will open with a set by Pocket Lounge, a three-piece funk band based in St. Peter, Minnesota.
The one-night-only performance is produced by Joe Tougas and Associates, and advance tickets for the event are available only at joetougas.com/zappa. This is the second performance by Joe’s Garage following the group’s public debut in April, 2024.
