With a theme of “Forgive Everyone Everything,” Reconciliation Park in Mankato was dedicated in 1997 to promote healing between Dakota and non-Dakota peoples.
Located near downtown Mankato, the park sits near the infamous site of the 1862 hanging of 38 Dakota. Surrounded by prairie grass and flowers, the monument lists the names of the 38 whose lives came to an end here.
The park boasts a large buffalo monument carved by artist Tom Miller from local Kasota limestone symbolizing the heritage and survival of the Dakota people.
