The West Mankato Trail starts at the intersection of the Minnesota River Trail on the North near where US 169 crosses the river on the North Star Bridge.

Along the way, the West Mankato Trail travels through the quaint neighborhoods of West Mankato, joins the floating bridge trail in Rasmussen Park and parallels Highway 66 before becoming the Red Jacket Trail at Indian Creek Road near Carney Park.
