It’s rare to find a shop specifically created to share passion and joy. That’s why the newly opened Atlantis Hobby is such a gem. From the moment you enter, you know you’ve discovered something magical.
Atlantis Hobby has everything you could need and expect from a gaming store; tabletop games including Pathfinder and D&D, trading card games like Pokémon and Magic the Gathering, supplies like dice and card sleeves to protect your deck, and of course, plenty of space to play. They also have the largest selection of Magic the Gathering single cards available for gamers who know exactly what they want in their deck.
But they didn’t stop there. The family owned operation also provides everything imaginable for aquarium enthusiasts; from tanks and filters, to lighting and foods, for fresh and saltwater tanks. Owner Garrett Jewison of Fragtastic Reef has combined his passions into this immersive mashup. His brother and fellow Atlantis operator, Preston Jewison, says, “You’d be surprised how often there’s an overlap between the two passions.”
A Dream Fulfilled
After dreaming of this shop for two decades, Garrett and Preston, as well as their wives, Jessica and Sheenah, are excited to finally be ready and rolling. The store, located in the former West Side Laundromat building, took a lot of love and work.
“Inside and outside. New floors, new ceiling, everything. It was a lot of work,” said Jessica.
That work has paid off with a spacious and clean shop, with plenty of tables for gaming. What fun is a game if you don’t have somewhere and someone to play it with? Atlantis Hobby is hosting Learn to Plays and Tournaments. All opening week they will be hosting free events, including Board Game Night from 6:00-9:00 pm Wednesday, MTG Modern night with prizes on Friday, 6:30-9:00 pm and Learn to Play KeyForge on Saturday from noon to 3:00 pm. Beginners to pros, it’s all about having fun. They’re also planning some aquarium nights in the future, where guests can come to discuss their tanks, explore tutorials, and share their enthusiasm.
Don’t forget to check out their Atlantean apparel. Jessica and Sheenah have been working away creating printed tees. Jessica even pulled out her mother’s old sewing machine and got to work handmaking gamer-themed face masks, even including children’s sizes.
Whether you’re looking to start your first aquarium from scratch or need something specific for your established tank, whether you can’t name a single Pokémon or have caught them all, whether it’s your first Magic deck or you need to find that specific single: check out Atlantis Hobby.
When you find yourself among the bubbling tanks, gaming tables, and friendly faces, you’ll know you’ve discovered something special.
