A few things crossed my mind thinking about this weekend. I am aware that it is Easter weekend, of course, but it seems crazy to me that the children don’t have school again on Friday.
What to do? Color some eggs? Try to catch a bunny? Some may focus on the religious aspects of Easter. Personally, I’ll be filming for a music video I’m releasing for my new single, Cheap Thrills — shameless plug! So, if you see a crazy looking face-painted pregnant lady running around in the woods, you’re not seeing things, that would be me.
On to some actual Weekend Spin happenings that I came across while hanging posters for Festival Solstice.
The Post Holiday Extravaganza is an event to help raise money for local music and art ventures and to simply celebrate that we are no longer complete hermits in our homes, and that it is indeed the end of winter.
An event that has painted the town with their posters is the PHE XII. This sounds pretty darn cool. For those who don’t know, The Post Holiday Extravaganza is an event to help raise money for local music and art ventures and to simply celebrate that we are no longer complete hermits in our homes, and that it is indeed the end of winter.
So, what’s happening at this two-day event? On Friday go to the Pre-Party at NaKato because it’s free and because the NaKato is awesome. Also, because you can get a sneak peek at the raffle while listening to local ambient rockers Beulah Rue and our rip-roaring buds from up north, The Brothers Burn Mountain. I know I’m intrigued.
On Saturday PHEXII officially begins with their Art Raffle/Silent Auction/Bake Sale at The Mankato Makerspace from noon to 5pm. Here, you can catch Lucky Devil BBQ and chef Sarah Haayer with drinks by Minn’Ohana Brewing. Enjoy some killer sounds from local DJ Jameson & DJ Shoba, Beige Interior, Bee Balm Fields, and Lost Walleyes. Minneapolis’ Kiss the Tiger will be there too. Then from 5:30-8pm it becomes an “all-ages show” with Gramma, Harper’s Jar, and Heart to Gold.
Sounds like a serious good weekend at Mankato’s Makerspace.
And that’s not all! This event reads like a music festival!
After the All-Ages Show, Robosapien, The Smokes, and Products will be closing the night!
Sounds like a serious good weekend at Mankato’s Makerspace.
If you’re looking for some more live music, Musila is playing a live show at Vagabond Village on Friday night. The online promo says, “Enjoy a blend of psychedelia, blues, and Sri Lanka music. Bring your journal, or engage in ours, lounge with your friends, listen to the music, and get lost in the space…”
Space is the place is a quote from my music college days which I’m passing on for free! Turns out it’s full circle, because it does seem that the Makerspace is the place this weekend.
